Skating System, Jacks &Timbers
SELCHP (South East London Combined Heat and Power) is a major ‘energy from waste’ incineration plant in South Bermondsey, London, designed to generate both heat and electricity.
We had to off load and position an LV Module. Working within a very space restricted site, alternative methods of off-load were required, as there was insufficient room for a mobile crane. To expedite the delivery in a safe manner, the chosen methodology was to utilise a skating system, supported on hard wood timber cribs. This allowed transfer of the 11te module directly from the delivery trailer, across and onto the adjacent steel support frame – it’s final point of use.
The first task was to align the delivery trailer parallel to the support frame, then to utilise timbers and jacks in order to stabilise the delivery trailer ready for discharge. The next phase was to raise the module using the hydraulic jacks allowing for the placement of the skating system beneath it. The timber cribs were then positioned to allow load bearing support en-route to the steel support frame.
