Project Background

British Solar Renewables is delivering the Dengie Solar Park, a major renewable energy project located in Essex. The site is designed to generate 19 MW of solar power and includes a 5 MW battery storage facility, contributing to the UK’s strategic net zero targets. Radius Group was appointed as the principal lifting contractor to ensure the safe and efficient installation of four large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) units.

Scope of Works

Radius Group provided a comprehensive contract lifting solution, including all lifting operations supported by our in-house specialist team.

The team comprised:

• Appointed Person (AP)

• Lifting Supervisor

• Slinger/Signaller

• Pre-lift site inspection and risk assessment
• Site-specific lift planning and RAMS
• In-house Lifting Team : Appointed Person, Lift Supervisor & Slinger/Signaller
• Coordination and oversight of 450t mobile crane
• Transport & Logistics
• High-precision placement of BESS containers
• Mobilisation and coordination of lifting operations
• Precision placement of 4 x BESS containers into designated bays

Each BESS unit – valued at approx. £800,000 each – weighed approximately 38te, requiring high-accuracy lifting within tight spatial constraints and ground pressure limits.
