London
Radius Group managed a critical lift operation, closing Old Broad Street, to lift low-carbon heating units to the roof in partnership with ISG. These units are more efficient than traditional gas systems, enhancing the building’s energy efficiency and sustainability.
Lloyds Banking Group will reopen its refurbished headquarters at 33 Old Broad Street, London, this year, transforming it into an energy-efficient workspace for 5,000 employees. Advanced technology integration will cut annual CO2 emissions, aiding Lloyd’s net zero target.
Challenges
Lifting Expertise
Radius provided comprehensive lift planning, including bespoke documentation, specialist personnel, and required accessories. The 3D-planned lift calculated gross weight and working ranges, maximizing the mobile crane’s reach and capacity. This project showcases our precision and excellence in lifting solutions.
Technical Details
We utilised a Liebherr LTM1450-8.1 crane configured with a 134te counterweight at a 6m radius. The crane operated with two lengths of luffing jib: 56m for reach during the first weekend and 38.5m for higher capacity during the second weekend. The heaviest load lifted was 9.26te.
Traffic Management
A comprehensive traffic management plan included road closures and diversions to minimize impact, supported by traffic marshals and safety protocols. Effective communication methods ensured smooth crane operations.
The successful completion of the lifting operations at 33 Old Broad Street underscores Radius Group’s capability in executing complex and critical lifts in urban environments. Reinforcing our commitment to safety, efficiency, and client satisfaction. Through meticulous planning and execution, Radius Group have played a pivotal role in transforming the Lloyds Banking Group’s HQ into a state-of-the-art, energy efficient workspace.
