Delivery and Installation of Substation
Background
Radius Group played a pivotal role – supporting SPL Powerlines – in the successful delivery of the largest ASG25 Substation in the UK to its site, Wigston MPATS.
This substation, spanning over 44m in length, posed a significant logistical challenge, necessitating accurate planning and execution. Given our expertise in contract lift and plant installation services, Radius Group was trusted with the task of ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of the item.
Divided into three sections for transportation, the Wigston MPATS substation required careful coordination and precision. Our team planned and executed the delivery, navigating through a narrow access point perilously close to lineside neighbours and an existing bridge portal.
Overview
The success of this installation was a testament to our collaborative approach, working closely with various stakeholders, including local authorities, law enforcement, residents, traffic management companies, hauliers, the switchgear manufacturer, as well as civils and electrical contractors.
Our experience in rail and electrification projects was instrumental in overcoming the unique challenges presented by Wigston MPATS. With a proven track record in delivering complex infrastructure projects within the rail sector, Radius Group’s expertise ensured the seamless integration of the substation into the existing rail network.
