Teddy Holt and Aviv Carmel Share UK First in Tower Crane Innovation
Rome, Italy – The International Tower Cranes (ITC) Conference 2025 brought together key figures from across the global lifting sector on 3–4 June at the Cardo Roma, Autograph Collection. Among the key sessions was a joint presentation by our Operations Director Teddy Holt and Aviv Carmel, Co-Founder and Chairman of Skyline Cockpit, focused on the use of remote-controlled tower cranes.

Their session explored the UK’s first practical deployment of ground-based crane control at Winvic Construction’s Lancaster Street project in Birmingham. The case study outlined how the crane was operated entirely from the ground — a first for UK construction — and examined the impact on site safety, operator wellbeing, and project coordination. The presentation generated strong interest and discussion among equipment manufacturers, rental providers, and contractors, particularly around the operational, training, and workforce implications of this technology.
The two-day event featured a strong programme of technical sessions and keynote talks. A highlight was Philippe Cohet, CEO of Uperio, who spoke on building a sustainable future for tower cranes, emphasising the need for smarter fleet management, design innovation, and long-term environmental responsibility across the industry.
Another key feature of the programme was a series of expert panel discussions. One session, hosted by Thibaut le Besnerais, Mohammed Abouelezz, Daniel Gwozdz, and Benedikt Bearles, explored the challenges and solutions in tower crane engineering. A second panel, led by Steve Bradby, Rupert Cook, Timo Pauel, Frank Vermeulen, and Dr Andrew Deakin, focused on transforming energy efficiency in tower crane operations, highlighting strategies for reducing environmental impact through smarter design and system innovation.
Organised by KHL Group, ITC continues to be a key international forum for the tower crane industry, bringing together delegates from across Europe, North America, the Middle East and beyond. Alongside the technical programme, the event offered valuable time to reconnect with long-standing colleagues and form new relationships across the sector.
Supporting Teddy Holt at the event were Ben Phoenix (Operations Manager) and Rachael Swanston (Marketing Manager), who participated in sessions, discussions, and networking across both days. It was also a great chance to reconnect with our Skyline Cockpit partners — Baruch Parnes and Guy Parnes — and strengthen our shared focus on advancing crane technology.
Radius Group extends sincere thanks to Alex Dahm and the KHL team for delivering another expertly run event. From the venue to the hospitality, everything was first-class and set the tone for productive, forward-looking conversations.
