Skyline Cockpit Success on Winvic Multi-Room Project

Radius Group – in partnership with Winvic Construction Ltd and Skyline Cockpit – is excited to announce a significant milestone in the construction industry. Winvic, has become the first UK contractor to utilise Skyline Cockpit, a pioneering technology designed to operate tower cranes from the ground, significantly enhancing operator safety and wellbeing.

With the support of Radius – responsible for bringing this cutting-edge system to the UK – Winvic’s newest initiative highlights its commitment to health, safety, and operational efficiency. The Skyline Cockpit system, tested over a 12-week period at Crown Place Birmingham – a purpose-built student accommodation scheme – demonstrated remarkable success. This innovative technology is now set to be used for the entire duration of the project, which is expected to be completed by December 2025.

Exclusive UK Distributor of Skyline Cockpit

Radius is proud to be the sole distributor of the Skyline Cockpit technology in the UK. This exclusive partnership allows us to bring this groundbreaking innovation to the forefront of the construction industry, ensuring that more projects can benefit from enhanced safety, efficiency, and operator wellbeing. Radius took possession of the Skyline Cockpit system over 18 months ago, dedicating time to understand its capabilities and potential. During this period, numerous Demo Days were hosted showcasing system’s benefits to industry leaders. This proactive approach has now culminated in Winvic taking possession of the Skyline Cockpit system.

A Leap Forward in Construction Technology

Skyline Cockpit redefines tower crane operation by eliminating the need for crane operators to ascend and descend the crane mast. Instead, operators manage the crane from a ground command centre equipped with a panoramic screen displaying real-time feeds from multiple military-grade cameras mounted on the crane. These feeds are merged through advanced algorithms to offer a comprehensive view of the site, augmented with real-time data on wind speed, slew, lifting, hoist, jib, and radius.

Industry Endorsement

Mark Jones, Winvic’s Managing Director of Multi-room, said: “Winvic is known for embracing innovative technologies, materials and methods of construction and we’re pleased to be the first contractor in the UK to utilise ground control tower crane technology. It is transformational for the safety and wellbeing of crane operators and an important step for the industry. During our 12-week trial period, in collaboration with Skyline Cockpit and Radius Group, we analysed the data and assessed the benefits and we’re delighted to announce that we will continue to use this game-changing technology at the 33-storey Crown Place Birmingham for the remainder of the project’s construction.”
