Lorry Mounted Crane, Tracked Carrier, Portable Gantry ‘A’ Frame
Radius was instructed to assist with the installation of a number of sculptures at Warkworth Castle for our client English Heritage.
The English Heritage commissioned art installations forming part of a series of interactive trails, which shares stories of the lives of people who lived in or near the castle in the early 15th century. Beside each sculpture will be an information board, containing accurate details of each person, researched by historians.
The Contract Lift & Plant Installation Division worked together as a team to provide several possible solutions to enable the client to determine which was the most cost effective and safe solution for their situation.
Before the installation days, we carried out a number of test lifts, to avoid any complications on site.
Over the course of two visits, we installed five sculptures in various locations within the confines of Warkworth Castle. We had to overcome a number of challenges; the main one being a mobile crane was not a feasible solution, due to the fact that the castle is sited on an ancient monument and risk of damage from a wide and heavy load was not an option. Instead, we used various types of specialist lift & shift equipment, to carefully transport and install the sculptures, as per the client’s specifications.
On the second day, we provided a transport solution involving a skilled and complicated lifting operation, using a lorry mounted crane, to transport the sculptures from the West Midlands to Warkworth Castle.
