Hydraulic Gantry Lifting System
Radius was instructed to provide a complex heavy lifting solution to offload a 30te chp unit and pass through a 1m high opening into an energy centre. Early collaboration was key and radius completed a detailed site survey to establish the confines of the building access point. A scheme was developed utilising a hydraulic gantry lifting system (hgls); resulting in the chp unit was safely uplifted from our client’s transport.
Using a 160te capacity HGLS we aligned and erected at the correct angle to allow vehicular access beneath it and also clearance to enter the Energy Centre at the higher level, whilst avoiding clashes with the building columns. The HGLS system arrived on transport, was offloaded and assembled in readiness for the arrival of the CHP. The delivery vehicle was marshalled into position beneath the waiting gantry system, lifting accessories connected, and the unit raised, allowing the trailer to withdraw.
In ‘travel mode’ the HGLS propelled into the opening of the Energy Centre, until suitable capacity support stillages were positioned within the rear of the CHP. The load rested upon these, allowing for the repositioning of the HGLS, which then allowed us to lift the rear end of the CHP whilst resting the front end within the Energy Centre onto heavy duty nylon machine skates. Throughout this care was taken to ensure that the 100mm clearance around the CHP unit was safely maintained. The CHP then fully landed completely onto the nylon skating system before being fully pushed further into the Energy Centre at the higher level.
